Overview
The Echoing Green Fellowship, run by the nonprofit Echoing Green, provides strategic and financial support for emerging leaders building early-stage social impact organizations, helping them become sustainable. It is an 18-month fellowship that includes a Fellowship Grant Stipend; for for-profit or hybrid companies, this stipend is structured as a Recoverable Grant that may require repayment if the company exceeds certain financial thresholds. The organization receives approximately 4,000 applications annually.
Eligibility
- Applicant must be 18 years or older
- Must be able to communicate proficiently in English
- Must be an original founder, or a leading member of the proposed organization's original founding team
- Must be the primary decision maker with ultimate organizational authority
- Must be able to work full time (40 hours a week) on the organization
- Organization must be early stage, meaning it has operated with full-time staff for less than five years, or still needs resources to grow
- Organization can be for-profit, nonprofit, or hybrid, with no 501(c)(3) requirement, and can be at idea stage without formal incorporation
Funding Purpose
The stipend and fellowship resources are intended to help organizations initiate or scale their social-impact work.
Application Process
Applications are submitted exclusively through Echoing Green's application website. Required components include general applicant and organizational information, short-answer questions about leadership and work, a collaborative analysis identifying similar organizations, a resume, and a 60-second video answering why the applicant does what they do. Finalists undergo interviews with expert panelists.
