Google.org Impact Challenge, AI for Science

Overview

The Google.org Impact Challenge, AI for Science is a $30 million global open call from Google.org intended to give researchers and organisations funding, tools and technical expertise to pursue scientific breakthroughs using AI. It is administered by Google.org together with subject matter experts and partner organisations Renaissance Philanthropy and the Centre for Public Impact, and selected projects can also access a Google.org Accelerator program.

Eligibility

  • Open to nonprofits, social enterprises and academic institutions
  • Projects must pursue high impact research in AI for Health and Life Sciences, or AI for Climate Resilience and Environmental Science
  • Projects must show scientific ambition with clear, quantifiable success metrics
  • AI use must align with Responsible AI Principles
  • Projects must show potential to scale for broader impact

Funding Purpose

Awards of $500,000 to $3 million per recipient are meant to fund high impact scientific research projects that apply AI to health and life sciences or to climate resilience and environmental science. Selected organisations may also receive six months of pro bono technical assistance and Google Cloud credits through the Accelerator program.

Application Process

Applicants submit an application addressing scientific ambition, AI integration, feasibility and scalability, reviewed by Google.org and partner organisations. At the time of review the next application deadline was listed as May 1, 2026.
