Overview

The PM Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme is a centrally sponsored scheme launched in June 2020 with Rs. 10,000 crore in funding, administered by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI), Government of India, under the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan. It aims to formalise and upgrade India's unorganised micro food processing sector, providing financial, technical, and business support to individual entrepreneurs, FPOs, SHGs, and cooperatives.

Eligibility

  • For individual micro enterprises: existing, operational micro food processing units with fewer than 10 workers
  • Applicant must be above 18 years of age with a minimum VIII standard educational qualification
  • Only one person per family is eligible
  • For SHGs and FPOs: must have been engaged in processing ODOP produce for at least 3 years, with a minimum turnover of Rs. 1 crore

Funding Purpose

Eligible units can receive a 35 percent subsidy up to Rs. 10 lakh, with the applicant contributing 10 percent of the project cost, intended to help formalise and upgrade micro food processing units, purchase equipment, and improve production processes.

Application Process

Applicants register online at pmfme.mofpi.gov.in and create an account. Required documents include Aadhaar card and PAN card, bank account details, address proof, a project report, machinery quotations, land or premises proof, and FSSAI registration where applicable. District-level committees review applications, a process that typically takes 30-45 days.
