Overview
The Biotechnology Ignition Grant (BIG) is a flagship funding initiative of BIRAC (Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council) that supports early-stage biotech innovation in India through both financial resources and mentoring. It is delivered through eight implementation partners across the country, with IKP Knowledge Park serving as a partner since the program's inception, providing mentoring, business development guidance, and post-award monitoring and networking through to commercialization.
Eligibility
- Startups less than 5 years old operating in biotech sectors
- Graduate degree holders with biotech innovations
- Individual innovators with commercial potential
- Sectors covered include healthcare (medical devices, drugs, diagnostics, biosimilars), industrial biotechnology, clean energy, digital health, and agriculture
Funding Purpose
BIG provides up to INR 50 lakhs in grant-in-aid, which is non-dilutive capital, to fund early-stage biotech innovation from proof of concept toward commercialization, supported by mentoring and business development guidance throughout.
Application Process
BIG runs a biannual intake with application windows opening January 1 and July 1 each year, each lasting 45 days. Applicants are directed to contact teambig@ikpknowledgepark.com for guidance.
