Overview
The BIRAC Biotechnology Ignition Grant (BIG) is a national early-stage biotech funding program administered by BIRAC, delivered in its 25th call cycle (BIG 25) through a-IDEA at ICAR-NAARM (NAARM-TBI). It provides equity-free grant-in-aid funding to help entrepreneurs establish proof of concept for biotech innovations, particularly in agriculture and allied sectors, over an 18-month project period.
Eligibility
- Company must be registered as a Private Limited company or LLP, incorporated within the last 5 years
- Project must be represented by a designated Project Leader
- Applicant must have a functional, adequate in-house R&D facility, or be incubated at an approved incubator
- Focus areas include Agriculture and Allied Sectors, Clean Energy, Agricultural Mechanization, Animal Husbandry, Waste Management, Food Technology, and Fisheries
Funding Purpose
BIG 25 provides an equity-free grant-in-aid of up to Rs 50 lakh over an 18-month period, meant specifically to establish proof of concept for the applicant's biotech innovation.
Application Process
Applications go through a six-stage selection framework: Eligibility Check, Preliminary Selection, Technical Evaluation Panel, Expert Selection Committee, Due Diligence, and Funding Award involving execution of a Grant Letter Agreement.
