BIRAC Fund of Funds, AcE (Accelerating Entrepreneurs)
Offered by BIRAC
Overview
BIRAC invests as a limited partner into SEBI-registered Alternative Investment Funds (AcE daughter funds), which in turn invest directly in biotech startups. BIRAC commits up to Rs 30 crore or up to 30% of a daughter fund's corpus, with partner funds required to commit roughly twice that amount, pulling in private VC alongside public capital. For founders, this identifies which VC funds carry government-backed capital earmarked for biotech; as of August 2025 the program had backed 102 startups with Rs 1,560 crore in actual investment across 16 daughter funds.
Eligibility
- Biotech, healthtech, medtech, pharma, agritech, or bio-IT venture
- Seeking an equity round from one of the listed AcE daughter-fund partners (e.g. Indian Angel Network, Gujarat Venture Finance Ltd, Ankur Capital)
- Startups do not apply to BIRAC directly
Funding Purpose
Equity investment via partner AIFs, reportedly up to around Rs 7 crore per startup depending on the daughter fund.
