Overview

TANSEED is Tamil Nadu's flagship seed grant challenge, run by StartupTN (the state's nodal startup agency, Government of Tamil Nadu), now in its eighth edition. It offers equity-linked grants to early-stage startups, combined with enrolment in a one-year accelerator programme. Since its fifth round, StartupTN takes a small equity-like support stake (3 percent) in beneficiary startups rather than a pure grant.

Eligibility

  • Startup must be registered in Tamil Nadu, registered with StartupTN, and recognised by DPIIT
  • Must be working on innovation with strong potential for job creation, social impact, or wealth creation
  • Entities formed by splitting or restructuring an existing business are not eligible
  • Subsidiaries or joint ventures of other companies, and Indian arms of foreign companies, are not eligible

Funding Purpose

The grant, up to Rs. 15 lakh for green tech, rural impact, and women-led startups, and up to Rs. 10 lakh for startups in other sectors, is meant for prototype development, creating market-ready products, or pilot production.

Application Process

Founders apply through the StartupTN/TANSEED application process during an open application window each edition. Selected founders are enrolled in a one-year accelerator programme offering mentorship, priority access to StartupTN events, and opportunities to join national and international delegations.
