BIRAC SEED Fund (via Venture Center)

Overview

The BIRAC SEED Fund is offered under the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council's Sustainable Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development Fund, providing capital assistance of up to Rs 30 lakh to post-Proof-of-Concept biotech startups with new and meritorious ideas, innovations, or technologies. Delivered through Venture Center as a BioNEST-supported incubator, it is designed to act as a bridge between a founder's own investment and subsequent Angel or Venture Capital investment.

Eligibility

  • Startup should be a resident incubatee of Venture Center at the time of seed fund investment
  • Minimum 51% ownership by Indian citizens
  • Startup must be up to 5 years from the date of incorporation, with turnover not exceeding Rs 25 crore
  • Must have at least one dedicated entrepreneur involved in the venture
  • Must be registered as a private limited company, or in the process of registration

Funding Purpose

Funds support post-PoC biotech startups in bridging the gap between promoter investment and Angel/Venture Capital investment, helping them advance meritorious ideas, innovations, and technologies toward commercial and investment readiness.

Application Process

The fund is delivered as an equity investment of up to Rs 30 lakh (for up to 10% equity stake), with Venture Center taking a Board Nominee Director and/or observer seat.
