BIRAC LEAP Fund (via Venture Center)

Overview

The BIRAC LEAP (Launching Entrepreneurs for Affordable Products) Fund is a BIRAC scheme offered through Venture Center that provides funding support of up to Rs 1 crore per startup, via equity or equity-linked instruments, to help potential biotech startups pilot and commercialize their products and technologies so they can subsequently raise venture capital investment.

Eligibility

  • Only Indian startups with minimum 51% ownership by Indian citizens
  • Must have at least one dedicated entrepreneur involved, a formal business plan, and a technically sound idea and team
  • Must meet environment, health, and safety requirements and show potential for raising future funding
  • Funding requested must be less than Rs 100 lakh, and entrepreneurs must be willing to share equity
  • Startup should be a resident incubatee of an incubator such as Venture Center at the time of investment

Funding Purpose

LEAP Fund capital is meant to help startups pilot and commercialize biotech products and technologies, positioning them to raise subsequent venture capital investment.
