Smart India Hackathon
Offered by MoE's Innovation Cell / AICTE
Overview
A nationwide hackathon where student teams solve government and industry-posed problem statements, spanning software and hardware tracks. Institutes run internal hackathons first to shortlist their best teams, which then compete in a 36-hour grand finale. The 2026 cycle's team nomination and idea submission deadline has passed; the grand finale is scheduled for December 2026.
Eligibility
- Any undergraduate or postgraduate student enrolled in an AICTE or UGC-approved institute, any branch or domain
- Teams of exactly 6, with at least 1 female member mandatory
- Institutes participate via a registered single point of contact (SPOC)
Funding Purpose
Cash prizes awarded per winning problem statement at the grand finale; exact current figures vary by source and should be confirmed on the official site before relying on a specific amount.
Application Process
Institute SPOC registers on the official portal, runs an internal institutional hackathon, then shortlisted team leaders register centrally and submit against chosen problem statements ahead of the grand finale.
