Overview
The BCDD Grant is an early-stage funding scheme implemented by Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) in collaboration with the Backward Classes Development Department (BCDD) of the Government of Kerala. It is designed to help graduates from Backward Classes (OBC) communities establish technology-driven enterprises. The scheme offers structured financial support of up to Rs. 10 lakh per startup, split into an Idea Grant of up to Rs. 3 lakh for concept validation and a Productization Grant of up to Rs. 7 lakh for taking a validated idea to a market-ready product. Funds are released in milestone-based tranches rather than as a lump sum.
Eligibility
- Applicant must be a graduate (any stream) belonging to a Backward Class (OBC)
- Age must be between 23 and 40 years
- Must have an innovative, technology-based product idea
- For the productization grant component, a minimum of 80% shareholding must be held by the OBC founder(s)
- Company must be incorporated as a Private Limited company, LLP, or OPC, and registered with KSUM before disbursement
Funding Purpose
The grant money is meant to fund prototype development, market entry, and early growth initiatives for the startup. The Idea Grant portion supports concept validation, while the Productization Grant portion is meant to carry the venture from validated concept to market-ready product.
Application Process
Applications are submitted online through the KSUM grants portal (grants.startupmission.in). Shortlisted founders present at a Pitch Day before an Expert Committee, which evaluates Team, Product Innovation, Marketing, Financials, and the Grant Utilisation Plan.
